Mental Health Australia's third submission to the Productivity Commission Inquiry into Mental Health: Intergovernmental Arrangements

Mental Health Australia’s original submission to the Productivity Commission Inquiry into Mental Health provided preliminary advice about how to target the Inquiry both in relation to the suite and mix of mental health services needed. The second submission was a targeted global evidence review of innovative and best practice service delivery models in mental health. This third submission considers the intergovernmental arrangements necessary to underpin and encourage the suite of services and best practice service delivery models outlined in the first and second submissions.

In particular, this third submission argues for the implementation of a new National Mental Health Agreement drawing on lessons learnt from the Productivity Commission’s own review of the current National Disability Agreement. It also explores funding models that enable greater collaboration between services, sectors and portfolios to enhance a focus on outcomes in mental health.
