Dear friends and stakeholders,

As we all know, we have just finished celebrating Harmony Week. This is a great chance to showcase the many fantastic programs in place and best practice when it comes to multicultral mental health. Here at Embrace Multicultural Mental Health (the Embrace Project) that’s been our focus for the first part of 2021 – best practice – a theme that has been be carried across our meetings in March with our Alliance partners FECCA and NEDA, as well as our CALD Mental Helath Consumer and Carer Group and Stakeholder Group. Our fact sheet on best practice can be found here, and it complements our Good Practice Guide.

We are also very excited to share that our recent recruitment of CALD Mental Health Community Champions attracted a great selection of people looking to promote the Embrace Project and champion mental health literacy and help seeking in their communities. We look forward to working with these Champions over the coming weeks and months who will initially focus on Arabic, Farsi, Dari and Mandarin-speaking communities.

More broadly, and in relation to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Embrace Project is aware that the next challenge we face is in communicating with communities is about the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. The best way to do that is via the Australian Government’s Department of Health’s translated information.

Looking ahead to the next couple of months we are also excited to be able to offer face to face workshops on the Framework for Mental Health in Multicultural Australia in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. See below for full details and a link to register.

Warm regards,

The Embrace Project team

Project Highlights
What does good practice in multicultural mental health look like?

Good Practice Guide: Working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Embrace Multicultural Mental Health has published a Good Practice Guide for working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. The Guide highlights key principles that demonstrates good practice.

The purpose of this guide is to provide information to Australian mental health services, practitioners, Primary Health Networks and others on what good practice looks like in working effectively with people from culturally and linguistically diverse  backgrounds. It is intended to provide practical advice and guidance for mental health service providers.

Community Video Forums

Last year, the Embrace Project held free video forums for community organisations and leaders in the community in each state and territory to provide resources and information on how to address mental health in your community.

The Forums provided the opportunity to learn about the Embrace Project, receive information and resources to address mental health, hear from local community members and local service providers, and ask questions and discuss mental health in a safe environment.
