National Mental Health State Consultation Workshops

In the lead up to the Federal Budget and a Federal Election in 2013, and following COAG’s recent decision to establish indicators to monitor the progress of national mental health reform, the Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA) is conducting consultation workshops with members and stakeholders in all states and territories throughout April to ascertain short and long-term priorities for the sector.

The aim of these workshops is to identify areas where the MHCA and its members can capitalise on their unique position as advocates to progress mental health reform and improve the lives of people affected by mental illness in Australia.

The MHCA and its state and territory partners are well-positioned to advocate on behalf of the sector, working in partnership to achieve change and improvement at both the national and local levels.

Issues and information from state and territory workshops will also feed into a national Members Policy Forum in late April.

The workshops will commence with two short presentations from both MHCA and its co-host in each jurisdiction to set the scene and to help establish a context for discussion during the day. By the end of the workshop, it is anticipated that there will be a strong set of priority areas for the MHCA and each state and territory peak mental health organisation to consider when planning future advocacy efforts. A detailed agenda will be made available closer to the workshop.
