Statement on Addressing Unmet Need for Psychosocial Support Outside the NDIS
Monday, December 2, 2024
Mental Health Australia is pleased to release a Statement on Addressing Unmet Need for Psychosocial Support Outside the NDIS. This Statement, developed in consultation with members, outlines the sector’s expectations of Australian Governments’ next steps to address this significant unmet need.
We’re calling for:
- immediate extension of funding for Commonwealth funded psychosocial supports (due to expire on 30 June 2025) for another two years
- investment in the 2025-26 Commonwealth and State/Territory Budgets to begin expanding existing psychosocial supports, grow workforce capacity, improve commissioning capability and consult on the design of future psychosocial support arrangements
- Commonwealth and State and Territory Governments to agree to a 5-year plan to increase investment in psychosocial supports outside the National Disability Insurance Scheme to meet need – funded through a 50:50 cost share arrangement and delivered through the National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Agreement, which recognises and addresses the differing unmet needs between jurisdictions.
Mental Health Australia will continue to work with our members to advocate for these outcomes, including in the lead up to the next Health and Mental Health Ministers Meeting.
