NDIS Capacity Building Project: mental health sector

As a part of the NDIS Capacity Building Project, Mental Health Australia carried out two discrete projects to build the capacity of the mental health sector to operate under the new NDIS arrangements.

Advice on the impact of the NDIS on the mental health workforce

In 2015, Mental Health Australia engaged the Mental Health Coordinating Council of NSW to develop a scoping paper on the impact of the NDIS on the mental health workforce. Development of the paper was informed by the advice of a project advisory group (including mental health consumers, service providers and peak bodies), interviews with mental health consumers, carers and service providers and a literature review. The paper is available on the Mental Health Australia website (click here).

NDIS psychosocial supports design project

In 2015, Mental Health Australia and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) undertook a joint project on the design of NDIS supports for people with psychosocial disability. The project aimed to detail the range of supports for NDIS participants with psychosocial disability. To do this, Mental Health Australia provided funding from its NDIS Capacity Building project to Community Mental Health Australia to conduct consultations with consumers, carers and service providers around Australia.
