Submission to the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry

This submission responds to the Royal Commission’s questions regarding policy issues raised in hearings in September 2018 into the conduct of insurers and superannuation providers.

The submission describes how people with mental health issues experience problems accessing the insurance market on fair terms, and proposes some regulatory and other solutions, including greater enforcement and monitoring of the current requirements on insurers under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth).

Our submission also discusses the link between actuarial data and underwriting practices, issues which the Royal Commission did not have time to consider during its hearings.
