'Distributed Advocacy Day'

Calling all members and friends

As part of our joint ‘Countdown to Reform’ campaign, we are now calling on you to meet with your local federal politicians.

This ‘Distributed Advocacy Day’ is the next key part of our campaign. The aim of this activity is to engage with federal Members and Senators in their own electorates over the coming weeks, to highlight the local and national issues we face in relation to mental health reform, transition and sustainability.

One thing we have on our side, is that we are all in agreement about the very real need for reform and the action that must be taken.

As we saw at our Parliamentary Advocacy Day in February, the power of a united sector voice has a tangible impact on policy makers. Feedback from many of you following that event in February was a keenness to undertake a similar approach with politicians locally.

In line with that feedback, and to build on growing momentum, we have developed some key, overarching messages to complement your discussion with your local federal politician on the direct impacts these issues are having on your local area.

You can meet with one, two or ten politicians, depending on your availability and resources.

To help get this cross-country collaborative action underway now, we have created a pack of information, templates and guides. If you are keen to participate and would like to receive a copy of the information pack, please contact us via email or on 02 6285 3100.

Mental Health Australia will be coordinating meetings in Canberra and we encourage those located here in the ACT to contact us.

We will follow up with you in the coming weeks to see how you’re going. Ideally, we would like everyone to have their meetings complete by mid-October.

If you would like to discuss this, or any other aspect of the campaign, feel free to contact Mental Health Australia anytime.
