2023-24 Pre-Budget Submission

The mental health sector is calling for clear commitment from the Australian Government in the 2023-24 Budget to working with us to address fundamental gaps in Australia’s mental health workforce and system, and addressing social determinants of mental health and wellbeing.

As the Productivity Commission inquiry into Mental Health showed, we need substantive investment and ongoing reform to meet the overwhelming needs of today, and set up better systems to prevent and address mental health need in the future.

Mental Health Australia’s 2023-24 Pre-Budget Submission outlines priorities for Australian Government investment in:

• Lived experience leadership
• Mental health workforce
• Community-focussed mental health system (including addressing social determinants of mental health)
• Government leadership and accountability.
