Investing to Save - KPMG and Mental Health Australia report - May 2018

At Mental Health Australia our vision is for mentally healthy people, and mentally healthy communities. Investing to Save presents a major contribution towards that vision. It shows how we can, with the right targeted investments, improve the mental health of our community, and in turn the mental wealth of the nation.

There have been many reviews, inquires and other various investigations into Australia’s mental health system. But this is a report unlike any other.

Investing to Save: The economic benefits for Australia of investment in mental health reform, tackles a set of complex issues from a new perspective, and a new pragmatic approach to the scale of the task of reforming our mental health system.

While gambling is an enjoyable recreational pursuit for many people, for some it can lead to significant harms. Mental Health First Aid Australia and Melbourne University used the Delphi expert consensus method to develop guidelines for how a concerned family member, friend or member of the public can recognise the signs of gambling problems and support a person to change their gambling.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists ( AEP s) have experience and expertise in the assessment, design, and delivery of exercise and behaviour change interventions. With increasing opportunities for AEP s in mental health, it is essential that the broader mental health sector is aware of the types of interventions, modes of delivery, and likely benefits to service users associated with the utilisation of AEP interventions. This document defines the scope and capacity of AEP s in the mental health sector, raises awareness of AEP pathways available to mental health professionals, and describe the benefits of AEP interventions for individuals utilising mental health services.
